Unwind - Hidden Pond
Nestled at the end of a dirt road in Kennebunkport, Maine, lies a beautiful New England getaway, Hidden Pond. With recent design help by the New York fashion designer Todd Snyder, the resort is down to earth and very relaxing due to its cottage-style living that is dotted around the wooded forest. There are many different accommodation types, from a studio style to two story, two bedroom cottages equipped with their own kitchen and living room. Taking inspiration from the natural surroundings, the cottages are quaint and rustic yet luxurious, blending the world between a traditional Maine cabin and fine living. The property is designed for relaxation and tranquility with two pools, one at the main lodge and an adult-only oasis at the Tree Top spa. There is a gorgeous fitness studio, yoga in the garden, spa, bikes free to use for guests, and a bunch of guided activities within Kennebunkport Propper.
Also on the property is a renowned farm-to-table restaurant, Earth at Hidden Pond. Offering locally grown produce right there on property hand picked from the chef’s garden, as well as proteins from not too far away. They do not stop there, the presentation and taste is immaculate and is definitely worth a stop in. My favorite part of the restaurant is its giant chandelier made from branches that is just one of a kind.
Now, if with little ones, head over to Goose Rocks Beach for a walk along the coast or a frigid swim. This is New England; prepare for colder water temperatures. If the beach is not your thing, head into town for lunch at many of the quintessential Maine restaurants. Go check out Walker’s Point, the Bush residence. You may even see the big guy or his posse of black Cadillacs. After your day in town or sand filled adventures, head to the lodge to retrieve your bucket of s’more essentials and find your way over to the fire pit. Quickly and swiftly beat your spouse in a game of ping pong or cornhole. If you’re a better partner than I am, maybe you’ll let them win a game or two. Then return to the fire pit where your s’mores are waiting, roast up some marshmallows by the fire, and just breathe in the crisp New England air.
This is one of my favorite places to visit, and I have many fun filled and relaxing memories of Hidden Pond, such as grinding out ping pong matches with my father, which always ended in defeat by his nasty forehand, but my opponent was camp champion back in the day. To my sister and I riding bikes around the property and always finding our way over to the pool for Shirley Temple when we were kids. I encourage you to get up there and spend a few days. I guarantee you will not want to leave.
