Unwind - Krafted Brew Labs
Tucked away in Bantam, Connecticut, located in the northwest corner of the state, is a coffee roaster, Krafted Brew Labs. I have come to love this coffee shop for a few reasons. The attention to detail they apply when sourcing and roasting their beans is some of the best I’ve found, especially in Connecticut.
Sourcing their beans from the best producers and regions they carry a wide array of different single origins that will suit everyone’s pallet. From a bold Colombian variety to a fruity zingy Ethiopian and everything in between, I have gotten the pleasure to enjoy some of their espresso and cold brew drinks, which, after searching far and wide, just can’t be beaten. But do not overlook their house batch of “Bantam blend.” I find it one of the most well-rounded house blends you will come across. Perfect for espresso, drip coffee, or cold brew.
The staff is extremely friendly and is willing to teach you all things coffee. If you are at all unsure about a particular drink or bean variety or just want to talk shop about how many grams they use for their double shot espresso or how long they steep their cold brew for, they are more than happy to have you pick their brain on how they do it. They are true, genuine people who love and care about what they do.
The shop’s aesthetic is down to earth, with many of its components built by the owner. The bar where all of their carefully crafted drinks are made is a solid piece of wood, garnished with its live edge that faces the customer and well-oiled top, making it a work of art. The roasting machine positioned off in the corner provides a visual aid for anyone new to the world of specialty coffee, a look into how it all works and the level of attention and detail that goes into it. They offer lots of little pockets to grab a seat and enjoy their coffee and treats. If you are lucky enough to visit during the weekend, it is mandatory that you indulge in their cinnamon sugar donut. Only available on Saturday and Sunday is a baked donut that will knock you off your feet. Every time I introduce a friend to this place, they are shocked by how a donut could truly be this good. It is worth the scenic drive, and I really hope you get a chance to pop in and try everything they have to offer. I am certain you will find an affection for this place just like I have.
