Watch of the Week - “My Watch”

When I was a teenager, my father gifted me his first watch, which was given to him by my mother. It is a Rolex "Coke" GMT Master ii. I still remember the day when he called me to his bedroom and presented me the watch accompanied by a card where he stated the hard work, effort, and struggles I had endured and overcome the previous years and how it was time for me to have my first real watch, I had had swatches and other smaller watches before yet this was a big leap into adulthood and a symbol for what had happened and what is to come. I cherish this watch deeply and it will forever be my watch. Now, when I say my watch, yes, obviously, all of the watches we get to own and care for are technically ours, but I mean a piece of me, a memory, my most cherished thing. Watches in my life will come and go; either I think they are attractive, or I found a good deal and couldn't pass it up, yet they will not hold the same significant value to me as "My watch."

An example anytime the fire alarm goes off in my apartment building due to an unattended steak or a dark and destroyed bagel I have my routine. I grab my keys and watch, and head down to the lobby; at this point, I don't even have to think about it. I immediately race to the dresser to retrieve my watch. Now, more than likely, it's a smoke alarm from some poor cooking. Although on the off chance, a real emergency was occurring, I had my watch, and in that time of panic and flee, that's the only thing on my mind. Yes, it is a very beautiful watch in its own right that all of us would be happy to rock on a daily basis. But it goes beyond that it holds a moment in time and memory. It's these emotions that I wish to be able to fusilate for the people who follow and invest in the brand of Congers. I believe in the power these watches can have on someone and wish to be a part of these moments with you.
