Watch of the Week - Watches and Wonders: Day 2

Watches and Wonders Day 2 is over, and here are some of my thoughts on what all of us watch lovers have to drool over. Continuing on the Rolex trend from yesterday, some amazing new additions to the GMT lineup were added, as well as an off-catalog daytona.

A brand new dial was added to the Rootbeer; this is not your everyday upgrade. An insane stone dial that's comprised of Red Jasper, Hemitile, and Tiger eye. I can't wait to see it up close in person, I think it will be stunning when interacting in natural sunlight. They have done special dials like this before in the GMT, like the meteorite with the Pepsi in white gold, but I think this is much better and more interesting; now I am a huge fan of the meteorite dials, especially on the Daytona (of which there are new ones) I just don't love the white dial up against the Pepsi bezel I think the black dial on the stainless steel is just much sharper. On the Rootbeer, the warm browns of the bezel and the everose case are balanced perfectly with the dial.

Rolex was having a field day with new dials for the GMT, as there is another version of the Sprite with an all-new ceramic green dial. Now, I am not a huge fan of this watch. I feel the proportions are off, although I love the inclusion and breaking of traditional molds and making a watch to be worn on the right wrist. This one is just not for me in terms of the case. I'm excited to see where they take their new ceramic dial and stretch it to its full potential. In person, this dial is going to look great and be something a little different from them.

Finally, the off-catalog Sapphire Daytona. I am usually not a fan of precious stones when it comes to what I choose to wear, but executed in the right way; it is just so elegant; for example, the platinum Daytona with its baguette hour markers is one of my all-time favorites, and this just got pumped up there with it. The sapphire bezel and baguette hour markers add another level of complexity I just can't get enough of. Plus, who doesn't like a little bit of fun once in a while? The black dial is really interesting; from what I've seen in pictures, I can't really make out whether it is a textured dial or not, but I am here for it. They really did a good job on this watch.
